In the shadow of the night before
A lesser Spring '90 date, but the setlist is unique for the tour. The 1st set is more of a Brent set - not a lot of fireworks from Jer, but it's Spring 90 so even though it's the bottom of the Nassau run (and the night after one of 90's biggies), they still play well for most of the show.
First Set. The well-known opening three are great (not 90s absolute best but good). The rest of the set is solid, above average and has the only Dire Wolf of the tour (there were only 2 in '90).
Second Set. Busting out with Iko Iko at the top in a strong-version-an-dei! The top of the set is good and there's an awesome tranny into Uncle John's but lots of slop in Terrapin and then it goes downhill. Standing on the Moon is 95% extremely plodding and anemic. Things don't turn around until Not Fade Away, which is bluesier than usual. There was only one Attics in '90 and though that usually isn't a stellar signifier...it's great!
1st Set: B- 2nd Set: C+
Overall = 3 Stars
Help>Slip>Franks - mainly the middle
Dire Wolf - 90's best
Iko Iko - tour's best
Attics of My Life - rarity at the time
SOURCES: The opening sequence is well known from Without a Net. Even with the official release there are great sources here, with the miller.87742 mastering of the Healy board-and-mic mix being as good, if not better, and an energized Tobin matrix. Plus several SBDs and FM simulcasts. The Space is on Infrared Roses.
